  See a Doctor

Since most back and neck pain is due to a rapidly reversible disorder, there usually is no urgency to see a doctor. However, occasionally it is due to a more serious problem and needs to be evaluated more promptly by a physician.

Here is a list of symptoms that warrant contacting your physician:
  • A change in bowel or urinary function associated with the onset or progress of your back pain.
  • Constant (every minute) severe pain below your knee or elbow with numbness or pins and needles in your foot or toes.
  • A recent severe accident started your pain.
  • You are also feeling generally unwell, including fever, fatigue, or weight loss.
  • You have a history of cancer.
When you call for your appointment, tell the office staff which of these items apply to you.
